Two deaths linked to vaping potentially by Healthcare Products Regulator

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) linked two reports of vaping which led to lung injuries where the patients died. In addition it said they had received 20 reports of ‘serious respiratory events’ linked to e-cigarettes.

Public Health England said they were concerned and awaiting MHRA’s investigation.  See their advice in their blog.

More than 2,600 cases have been identified in the US, but it is believed by the CDC that Vitamin E acetate is a chemical of concern – this is not permitted in the UK.

Although the scale of the problem in the UK is a lot smaller than in the US, 3.6 million people use e-cigarettes in the UK so if there is a problem it could grow.
