Ovo Energy, which acquired SSE’s retail business in Septembern 2019 making it one of the ‘big six’ providers, has been forced to pay customers after a combination of over-charging them, deciding not to refund smaller over-payments (under £10), failing to send out bills to some customers and not notifying the regulator Ofgem of the problems.

It’s business was expanding after it bought Spark Energy in 2018 and SSE’s retail business, including 8,00 employees and their customers. This made Ovo Britain’s second largest energy company after British Gas.
