Exercise Summary

The purpose of this exercise is to determine your values, by imagining some people speaking at your own funeral!

You have to imagine that people who are important to you say some words at your funeral. You need to decide what they will say about you. These things are what they see as your most important values.

You then decide whether these values reflect how you really are, and whether you are living your life currently reflecting these values.

Main Activity

Imagine key people giving a eulogy at your own funeral

1. Imagine your own funeral. Set the scene in your mind – you have died a natural death – imagine the day.
2. List the key speakers. Write down who these people are.
3. List the key points. Write down what you imagine each person saying about you – two or three of the key points.
4. List the values that you can extract from what they said. Write them down.
5. Note by each whether you are living your life according to each of these values. Tick the ones you do, cross the ones you don’t.
6. For each value you crossed, write down what you can do do to move towards living your life according to this value.
7. Choose which of these steps you are going to tackle first, and make a start.

We suggest a frequency of: Once when you want to understand your values
and it could last 15-30
minutes
