Yoga connects the mind, the body and your breath. It is a type of mindfulness that helps you build awareness of your mental state, and uses breathing and physical exercise as a way to focus your attention. It isn’t about tying your self in knots or strenuous effort. It has benefits in cardiovascular health, strength, back and spine health, immunity, blood flow, relaxation and sleep and reduces stress and anxiety.
Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. The main components of yoga are postures (a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility) and breathing. (NHS).
You can learn at a class or by yourself using YouTube. You ought to get a yoga mat too.
First decide whether you want to join a class (recommended to start with if you’re a complete beginner, but you can take beginners’ classes online too). If so, look at the info below on finding a class near you. Make sure you try a few.
If you want to try it on your own first, then you can look online (again info below) for some recommended videos.
We’ve put some poses below, thanks to yogidia https://yogidia.com
To indulge ourselves, a YouDriver takes Iyengar yoga classes, so here’s a link to the Illustrated Light on Yoga by BKS Iyengar
